In discussing the limits imposed on creating hierarchies and hierarchy structures, we must distinguish between the possible and the practical.
The following list outlines what is and is not allowed by the system:
• Only one hierarchy file can be linked to a survey.
• A file can contain an unlimited number of hierarchies.
• A hierarchy structure can contain an unlimited number of interaction points.
• Hierarchy files cannot contain node IDs that repeat across different levels of the hierarchy (duplicate node IDs). If you must have duplicate node names across your structure, then using the vertically formatted file will help you accomplish this.
• If you choose to convert a horizontally formatted hierarchy file to a vertically formatted one, remember to keep the hierarchy name the same between files if you wish to preserve analyst permissions and dashboard filters.
• All horizontal hierarchy files can be converted to a vertically formatted file, but once they are in a vertical format you cannot change back to a horizontal file.
• If you upload a hierarchy file and lose your analyst permissions or dashboard filters, you can always activate a previous version to restore them. The permissions will be restored to what they were when that previous file was active.
This list outlines what is most practical:
• A hierarchy structure with 10,000 interaction points or less performs the best.
• Hierarchies with no more than 7 levels per hierarchy perform best.
• Anything above these limits will not perform optimally.
