What's the difference between categorical and scale questions?

Categorical questions are those that contain a specific list of answers, such as Choose One, Choose Many, or Text-as-Categorical questions, but do not assign numeric values to the answers. You can’t calculate averages or other metrics from these questions. When you add a categorical question to your dashboard, the default chart type is a column chart that shows the answers on the x-axis and the count of respondents who gave each answer on the y-axis.

Scale questions are also categorical (they have a specific set of answers), but each answer is assigned a value so you can calculate values such as average or top box percentage. When dragging a scale question onto the canvas, the default chart will be a single column with the average calculated on the y-axis.
